I just watched the first episode and really did not think it was as bad as people are making it out to be.

I hate the bitching from supposed “fans”. It’s like they have never watched the very early episodes of the 2002-2015 Top Gear. Evans is a bit annoying but not as bad as most have said imo. Just my $0.02.

I literally could not watch the whole first season of old new top gear. I had watched the later seasons first and there was just no value. I thought the brand new episode was about half good and half bad. The blackpool ‘challenge’ was stupid until they got to the offroaders. I liked Matt’s bit with the Aerial Nomad. I’m still very hopeful it will hit its stride and a produce something that can be compared to the old stuff. Maybe not “this is the paragon of television program(me)ing” but does anybody remember how horrifying the India special was? This was better than that.

I mean, look...
actually, I’ll wait before the next FP article to make the joke.

It’s pretty stupid to think any show’s going to be great from the beginning.
I just wish they’ll abandon the things from old new Top Gear and come up with their own, like still introducing the Stig the same way.

You’ll have to explain. I’m clueless....

Explaining the joke (or a hot take, not sure what I’d like to say, really) would ruin it.

The problem is they’re trying to copy the old recipe instead of being themselves, and Chris’s spaz nature doesn’t work with it.
Actually it kind of strikes me as being what OldNewTG would have been with the Hamster at the reins instead of Jeremy.

To be honest, I’m just happy that power laps are back. It pissed me off to no end how they seemingly abandoned the section.

It was a completely different show in its early seasons (Which I have watched a few times). It worked for what it was, and as it evolved, it still worked.

Who, old new TG? I haven’t watched their last episodes in so long.

To be fair, Top Gear 2.0 was also awkward in its early days. It took years to become what it is now.

So if I never watched the old one because I think Clarkson is a terribly unfunny dipshit, would this new incarnation be worth my time, or no?

Oh, I didn’t know/remember they stopped doing them.

It’s less that they stopped and more that they became 90% less frequent.

Guess I’ll have to watch them again.

That’s what I was referring to. We think they’re awkward because the show was very different then. It was much less comedy and more factual car news and reviews.

Just like Top Gear US, they need to stop comparing it to the UK version in its most recognized format. At first they’re similar, so it won’t be too much of a shock, then it’ll branch out into its own niche. Even the Australian version had a bunch of funny segments that I really enjoyed.
New(er) Top Gear needs to be given a few more episodes until it finds out what works and what doesn’t. I will be watching.

The new TG could be a mix between fun and factual content now that Fifth Gear was cancelled. Getting Tiff Needell would be nice.
